Cherice Harrison, Nelson, Queen Reesie, an influential culture bearer for the Mardi Gras Indian community and our creative culture community. She designs the Mardi Gras costumes she wears as the Maroon Queen of the Guardian of the Flame. As a cultural leader, she works with young children passing on the traditions passed down to her from her ancestors.

"Cherice Harrison Nelson, daughter of Donaldson Harrison, Sr, embraced, like her father, the African roots of the masking traditions."

Cherice is the author of many articles about her role as a female powerhouse in the "Maroons, " she is also a playwright.

I've had the pleasure of photographing Charisse many times. Our photographic collaborations have led to a friendship that continues to be inspirational.

Thank you to my Queen Reesie.
